On Saturday Kaelyn turned 3 years old! Grandma Golden made her a beautiful Cinderella cake. She had to use grocery store canned frosting because she made the cake in Oregon....shhhh....don't tell. We also got to meet Dora!

Bailey too has become quite the 7 year old. She has a super cool room with a double bed and a computer.

Kaelyn brushing her teeth. Look mom - Twins!

On Sunday we went out for a birthday lunch. Kaelyn's choice of course. Chuck E. Cheese here we come! We did find an extra mouse there that we decided to bring home with us.

On Monday we headed an hour west to Lincoln City, OR to see the coast and do some whale watching. Each December aproximately 18,000 grey whales make the trip from Alaska to Mexico to give birth in the warm, tropical waters. When March comes along, the whales and their young must return north to their cold home off the coast of Alaska. Turns out we were in Oregon at just the right time to watch for whales returning home.

Alas, there were no whales to be seen that day. But, here are some fun facts about grey whales...
* Adult Grey whales are aproximately 45 feet long and can weigh up to 70,000 lbs.
* Momma Grey whales have a 12 month gestation period and give birth (tale first) to live babies that are already 15 feet long and weigh 7,000 lbs. While the calves are nursing they gain 9 lbs an hour, while the mother loses 1/3 of her body weight.
Sure am glad Baby McLaughlin isn't a grey whale!
We ate lunch at a diner on the ocean called Mo's. Kevin and Chris were very brave and ordered steamed oysters. None for me thanks! And much to her mother's dismay, Kaelyn even tried fried shrimp. A kid will eat anything if you tell them it's a chicken nugget. :) Bailey was at school and wasn't able to join us for our outing, but we sure missed her.

Grandma and Kaelyn were testing out the waves seeing how close they could get while looking for rocks. Let's just say about 2 seconds after this photo was taken, the waves got the best of them. We had packed an extra pair of clothes and shoes for Kaelyn....grandma wasn't so lucky.

Till next time!
